Choosing Cucumber Varieties
There are three main varieties
of cucumbers. They are slicing, pickling and burp less/seedless. Many
hybrid cucumbers have originated based on these three varieties. The most
popular hybrid cucumbers are Bush Pickle, Carolina, Straight Eight, Sweet
Success, Marketer, National Pickling, Dasher II, Fanfare, Raider, Regal, Sugar
Crunch, Summer Dance, Bush Champion, County Fair 83, Orient Express, Potluck,

When to Plant Cucumbers
The cucumbers can be grown
all year round. But summer is the best season for growing cucumbers. However,
for growing summer cucumbers, the appropriate time to sow seeds is February and
March.
Planting Seedlings
When the cucumber
seedlings are 15-20 days old, two seedlings will be planted in each pot. Then
they will be kept in a shady place for at least 3-4 days after planting.
After 3-4 days, they must be kept in direct sunlight.
Care for Cucumber Plants
When the seedlings are one
foot tall, set up a long stick beside the roots of the seedlings, tie them with
that stick and make a shelf on top. In the case of other plants, the soil at
the roots of the plants has to be loosened after 15 days but the soil at the
roots of cucumber plants can't be loosened. The roots of cucumber plants are
very flexible. So, if the soil is loosened early, the plants may
die. However, if weeds grow in the pots, the weeds must be cleaned
carefully with a hoe.
Applying Fertilizer
The organic fertilizer is
sufficient for growing cucumbers in pots. Usually, cucumbers don't need
to apply any chemical fertilizer. Therefore, if you want to get a good
yield, apply dry cow dung cake or mustard oil-cake or vegetable residue rotten
water at the roots of the cucumber plants every 15 days. For this, mix 10
glasses of normal water with one glass of rotten water and apply one glass of
that water in each pot. And, if you want to give chemical fertilizer, you have
to mix 5/6 pieces of DAB and 5/6 pieces of urea with water and give it to the
roots of the cucumber plants.

Preventing Diseases and Insects
There are no serious
diseases of cucumbers. But many times, the insects attack cucumber plants. For
this reason, the insects can be prevented using a sex fermenter trap. Indeed,
you can keep cucumber plants nice and protect them from diseases and insect
attacks by spraying neem oil every week regularly. And, if there is any serious
disease or insect attack, contact the nearest agricultural officer and apply
pesticides according to his/her advice. But after one week of applying
